Snack Attack Program
The LDFB Snack Attack Program is a program designed to address the increasing need for snacks in our schools for children and youth who come to school hungry. This program will provide a choice of healthy snacks bases on the approved Alberta Health Services (AHS) list (can be found on line). In 2016, over 40,000 snacks were provided, at a value of approximately $20,000.
While some schools have in the past purchased snacks to ensure students do not go hungry and have created breakfast and lunch programs for families who struggle to send food for their children, these purchases have taken fiscal resources away from other areas of educational need.
The program will ensure the school districts have access to healthy snacks at school to support student’s success in education. Our partnership consists of working with Black Gold Regional Schools and St. Thomas Aquinas Schools within the Leduc County boundaries.
Additional funding and sponsorship will need to be secured to run this program as not to impact the food resources for the LDFB clients and will be the responsibility of the LDFB.
